Read comments (33)Jamie Sifford, 29, was sentenced to six years in prison for a probation violation.
In a surprise move, Sifford also plead guilty to three counts of felony dogfighting through a plea agreement and was sentenced to three years in prison for each count.
He was immediately taken into custody.
Since the sentences will all run concurrently, he will serve a maximum of six years for all charges including the probation violation.
Sifford originally faced 18 charges of the Class D felony of dog fighting, three counts of the Class C felony of Possession of a controlled substance and one Class A misdemeanor Possession of drug paraphernalia.
There was one charge for each dog determined to have been fought at some point.
The Oct. 21, 2007 raid on Sifford's residence was a cooperative effort of the Stoddard County Sheriff's Dept., the SEMO Drug Task Force, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Missouri Humane Society.
Investigators recovered a large amount of evidence consistent with dog fighting including weights, treadmills, a bloody mat covering the floor of what was believed to be the ring where dogs were fought and breaker bars used to pry one dog's jaws from another.
In February, the Humane Society of Missouri was voluntarily granted custody by Sifford of 22 of the dogs seized in the raid and they have now begun adopting them out to qualified individuals.
Currently, the remaining dogs are being housed at the Missouri Humane Society Headquarters on Macklind Avenue in St. Louis while they await adoption.

I am a line crosser alot of the time, just by nature. When I was in grade school, the teacher would say to be silent and not make another sound, and I would make a funny sound with my mouth and keep a straight face.
There's a fine line b/t hateful/disrespectful and brutally honest/truthful...and I don't think either one of us crossed it.

Jamie may have a half-way decent personality, but a "good guy" he's not. He's always been in and out of trouble, and his wonderful family (which he doesn't deserve) has always bailed his butt out. He needed this sentence, if not longer.

Getting a concurrent sentence is like a free pass in that you serve no more time for one crime than for two, all these did was essentially revoke his probation.
Hopefully some time in jail will teach this boy a lesson. I don't care if they are "just dogs" what he did was inexcusable and a CRIME so let him pay his due and everyone get over it. Those who say he is a "good guy", I don't think good guys do things like this.
Shannonhoon, have you ever seen a bullfight? I have, It's sickening, the bull dose not come out alive. They stab him till he bleeds to death and can't fight any more, in the name of entertainment. I've never been to dog fights, but I've seen cock fights. They're cruel to watch too. I'm by no means a member of PETA, but I don't think that making animals fight for entertainment is right. I don't know this guy, he's probably not a bad person, but he screwed up. When you get caught screwing up in Stoddard County, there's a hefty penalty that comes with it. A VERY HEFTY penalty. I wish him the best, 6 years is a long time. Hopefully it won't bring the worst out of him.

Denene, please tell me you arent serious. Jamie is a good guy..he's just an idiot. He got caught and now he has to pay. Great family but they have been letting him off the hook his entire life. Since you know him so well then you too know he has been in trouble several times and never straightend up.
Layne.....I would say a guily plea and the evidence show Sifford is guilty, whether Deaneneia thinks so or not. A logo designed having to do with fighting til the death, dogfighting magazines, a dog fighting pit/ring, a treadmill, the MANY marks/scars on all of the dogs Jamie cared so much for. Yeah, I would say he was guilty. Drenine: Was he not guilty of the drug charge he was on probation for also? I think this guy may be the next coming of Billy Graham.

I think he got what he deserved. I think his sentence should be longer.

I am scared of the person who came out of prison because he went in...a child raper, a stabber, and so forth. Years or a year in prison is questionable? There is not much room in the big house for a non-violent offender that doesn't pose much of a threat to society. After he gets out, then it will be water under the bridge. It is cool that most people on here on not taking jabs at this person when he is a low point in his life.

Dog fighting is just plain bad, dogs shouldn't be bread to fight. It's just not right, it ranks up there with bull fighting. Making other animals suffer for thier own enjoyment is just wrong. But six years sounds like a long time to me. But then again a dog may not think it's too long.

Here is a prime example of a pretty nice guy that could never make the right decision. 5on5, it's good that you are sticking by your friend during a rough time in his life. It's sad that it turned out this way, but eventually bad decision's and bad choices are going to catch up with you. Maybe in the end this will all turn out for the best.

Hang in there Jamie. You have people thinking of you. There will always be someone on the outside who is quick to take a jab at you when you make a mistake. Get clean. You will have your whole life ahead of you when you get out.
A person's life can sure change in the blink of an eye. If he had just tried to do the right thing while on probation he could have picked up all the pieces and been reasonably happy I think...from reading the past articles.
Now, he is headed to prison, away from his family for YEARS. I feel sorry for them. Dog-fighting is extremely cruel and it take a very conscious decision to go to the point that this guy went. There will be plenty of dog-fighters in prison to talk to about the sport. May be some "mean" guys but they certainly aren't "men".
