Puxico man dies after July 24 wreck that claimed his wife

Friday, August 1, 2008

A Puxico man, 85-year-old Audrey Walk, died this week of injuries sustained in a wreck on July 24 that claimed the life of his 81-year-old wife, Ruth Walk.

The accident occurred as the senior Walk was driving on Highway 60 and attempted to take the T Highway ramp and apparently lost control of the vehicle, becoming airborne. The vehicle came to rest near the outer road in an upright position.

Ruth Walk, at the time of the accident, was transported by ambulance to a Poplar Bluff medical facility, from which she was later transferred to a Cape Girardeau hospital, where she died several hours later.

Her husband was airlifted at the time of the accident to a Cape facility and died on July 29.

A joint funeral service was held today in Puxico at the Morgan-Sifford Funeral Home for the Walk couple. One son, Rick Walk, survives.

The Walks were a familiar couple in the community of horsemen in rural Stoddard County. Audrey Walk retired in 1983 as the head mechanic of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife area in Mingo.

Two wrecks in county Thursday

Two separate accidents, both on Highway 25 south of Advance, resulted in two people with moderate injuries and a third placed under arrest by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The first wreck, which occurred six miles south of Advance, involved one vehicle driven by Drenna G. Lee, 60, of Advance. Lee's vehicle left the roadway and traveled down an embankment, striking a tree.

Lee, along with a passenger, 84-year-old Frances M. Lee, were both taken by ambulance to a Cape Girardeau medical facility.

A second accident just before 8 p.m. Thursday night took place five miles south of Advance when a car driven by Autumn D. Ross, 37, of Advance, failed to yield while pulling into a private drive and was struck by a vehicle driven by Randy Gramlisch, 48, of Chaffee.

The accident resulted in injury to a passenger in the Ross vehicle, Robert F. Autumn Ross and Gramlisch.

Autumn Ross was later charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in injury accident and careless and imprudent driving, along with a violation for window tint.
