Elsie James, daughter of the late Charles Dozier and Minnie Hampton Dozier, was born on Oct. 13, 1921, at Benton and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare at Dexter on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at the age of 86.

Mrs. James was a member of Essex First Baptist Church, a homemaker and resident of rural Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Ross B. James at Piggott, Ark. Mr. James preceded her in death on June 20, 2004.

Survivors include three sons, Stephen James of Fredericktown, Thomas James of Dexter and John James of Montgomery City; one daughter, Judith Boyle of Dexter; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Dozier and Jim Dozier; four sisters, Dorothy Cannon, Floy Kirkpatrick, Hazel Manley, and Thelma Clark.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. O.H. Brooks officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
