Neal E. Boyd is a final contestant on the two-hour premier episode of the program, having progressed through the ranks of competition on the program over the past several weeks. His opera performance of "Nessun Dorma" on an early show this season wowed the judging panel and erupted the audience, bringing Neal to tears and advancing him in the competition.
Boyd, whose first love has always been opera, grew up in an admittedly poor area of Sikeston, attending Southeast Missouri State University following high school and later the University of Missouri-Columbia, earning a bachelor of arts degree in music and performing with the University of Missouri Singers.
Boyd has a long list of musical credits to his name, including a performance at New York's Carnegie Hall. His home is now in St. Louis, where he sells insurance.
The show will air on NBC next Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Central time.
