Rev. Elvis R. Kester

Rev. Elvis R. Kester, son of the late George Kester and Dicey Prince Kester, was born on June 19, 1917, in Clay County, Ark., and died at his residence in Dexter on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at the age of 91.

Mr. Kester was a carpenter and a pastor of the General Baptist faith for many years in Stoddard County. He was a United States veteran serving in the Navy and a resident of Dexter.

On Nov. 23, 1986, he was united in marriage to Marie Peek at Essex. Mrs. Kester survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, Marie Kester of Dexter, other survivors include one step-son, Bruce Alan Mills of St. Peters; one sister, Ulah Montagno of Bandero, Texas; and two step-granddaughters.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul Kester, John Kester, Aurther Kester and Roy Kester; four sisters, Violet Brandt, Pauline Slaughter, Arlene Barcliff, and Helen Gann.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Johnny Meese officiating.

Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery.
