Elmer J. Sanders, son of the late Elmer Louis and Bessie Irene Presell Sanders, was born in Grayridge on May 22, 1926, and died at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at the age of 82.
Mr. Sanders had lived in the Essex area most of his life. He was of the Pentecostal faith and was a retired farm laborer.
On Nov. 3, 1948, he was married to Clara Jane King in Piggott, Ark. She preceded him in death in February 1987.
Surviving are four sons, Steve Sanders of Essex, Bill Sanders, Delbert Sanders and Adam Sanders, all of Dexter; two daughters, Kathy Romero and Dorthia Hess, both of Dexter; 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Geraldine Duncan of Bloomfield; and three brothers, Doyle Sanders, Roy Sanders and Donnie Sanders, all of Essex.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Cindy Blackwell; two grandchildren; four sisters, Mildred Williams, Anna Lea Duley, Wilma Jean Alberson, and Martha DeSmythe; and two brothers, James Sanders and Charles Dee Sanders.
Visitation will be held after 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Danny Collins of Qulin officiating.
Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
