Mr. Swallows had lived all of his life in the Dexter and Essex areas and was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter. Elmer also served in the US Navy during WWII.
On Aug. 16, 1947, he was married to Myrtle Slaughter in Piggott, Ark..
Surviving are his wife, Myrtle Swallows of Dexter; two sons, Allen and Dean Swallows both of Dexter; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence Sanders of Dexter. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Anderson and Charles Swallows.
Friends may call on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, after 8:30 a.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield with Steve Watkins of Dexter officiating.
Full military honors will be provided by the Kennedy-Hanks American Legion of Dexter.
