Oral Fortner

Oral Fortner, son of the late William Terrill Fortner and Clennie Dill Fortner, was born on Dec. 29, 1920 at Scurry, Tx., and died in the Golden Living Center at Dexter on Oct. 8, 2008 at the age of 97.

Mr. Fortner was a member of the Dexter Church of Christ, the former owner of a television repair shop at Cardwell and a resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Jewell Carlisle on April 23, 1930 at Cardwell and she preceded him in death on Oct. 6, 1987.

Mr. Fortner is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert G. and Darlene Fortner of Stone Mountain, Ga., by one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Wilson Lacey and Herb of Dexter; by two sisters, Opal Given of Lake City, Ark., and Cleo Heath of Paragould, Ark., by four grandchildren, DaRonda Wade, Brenda Mason, Mike Fortner and Tanya Davidson; by eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchild.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Fortner.

Visitation will take place at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Don Barr officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
