George Newton Hunsaker

George Newton Hunsaker, the son of the late Newton and Anna Kimble Hunsaker, was born in Essex on Sept. 25, 1945, and died at his son's home in Henley on Oct. 13, 2008, at the age of 63.

Mr. Hunsaker had lived in Essex and Dexter before moving to Eugene. He had worked for over 20 years as a police officer before being injured in the line of duty. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Who's Who in American Law Enforcement, National Association of Chief's of Police, and he received the Legion of Honor Award from the American Law Enforcement Officers Association for injuries received in the line of duty.

On August 10, 1963, he was married to Donna Davis in Dexter. Surviving are his wife, Donna Hunsaker of Eugene; one son, Cameron Hunsaker of Henley; two daughters, Kymberly Hunsaker of Eugene and Karen Wallace of Gulf Shores, Al.; four grandchildren; four sisters, Virginia Sherfield, Linda Christian, Glenda Fowler, Pansy Hunsaker; four brothers, Alvin, Bill, Gene & Jerry Hunsaker.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, and four brothers, John David, James, Burl and Ralph Hunsaker.

Visitation will be held on Saturday Oct. 18, 2008, after 10 a.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Essex Cemetery in Essex, with the Rev. Leonard Madigan of Dexter officiating.

Interment will follow at the Essex Cemetery in Essex with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
