Growing up in Oregon County, she attended school at Gatewood and Couch. While raising a family, she worked at Brown Shoe Manufacturing in Bernie from 1956 until her retirement in 1988 after 32 years of employment.
On May 2, 1942, she was united in marriage to Lowell Russell Tanner in Alton. Three children were born to this union: Russell Dale Tanner and wife Jeanice of Wappapello, Donna Louise Tucker and husband Harold of Oak Grove, La., and Randy Ellis Tanner and wife Tammy of Dexter. Other survivors include five granddaughters and one grandson: Kimberly Flowers, Lori Daniels, Brooke Smith, and Tyler Scott Tanner, all of Dexter, Brandy Judd of Monroe, La., and Melanie Chelette of Baton Rouge, La.; and eight great-grandchildren, Owen, Alexis, Ethan, Brett, Maci, Andrew, Austin and Karsyn; two sisters, Shelbia Goines of Camdenton and Sylvia Schlake of Doniphan; one uncle, George Reed of Myrtle; one special cousin, Wafe Reed and wife Virginia of Dexter; and many other relatives.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Anastasia Flowers.
Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter will be in charge of all arrangements. Visitation will be conducted from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008. James Lee Reed will conduct funeral services on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow at the Chalk Bluff Cemetery south of Dexter.
