Virgie M. Allen, the daughter of the late Ernest Eugene Singleton Gromer and Addie Oevia Mason Gromer, was born in Stoddard County on March 29, 1926, and died at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth, Miss. on November 5, 2008 at the age of 82.

Mrs. Allen had lived in the Dexter and Malden areas before moving to Miss. five years ago. She retired from Swifts Poultry Plant in 1970. and was of the United Pentecostal faith.

Surviving is her daughter, Karen Shelton of Corinth, Miss. and two sons, Gary Allen of Malden, and Tony Allen of Cape Girardeau; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three brothers: Cacil Gromer of Columbia, Allen Gromer of St. Louis, and Charles Gromer of Dexter; three sisters: Annie Pruitt of Bloomfield, Dorothy Edwards of Essex, and Mary Gromer of Dexter.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Alva P., Howard, and Harold Gromer, and by one daughter, Janet Johnson, and one granddaughter.

Friends may call on Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, after 6: p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008, at 10:00 AM in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with Rev. Jimmy Rich of Glen, Mississippi, officiating.

Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
