He was born July 20, 1932, in St. Louis, the son of James Wilford and Nellie Sprous Jackson. He and Mary McFall were married on March 6, 1959 in St. Louis.
Jackson served in the Army.
He lived in St. Louis until he moved to Dexter in 1968 and has lived in Cape Girardeau the past 15 years. While in St. Louis he had worked in a steel factory. He was also formerly a counselor at a detox center in Poplar Bluff.
Survivors include two sons, Walter Jackson, Jr. and James Glenn Jackson of Dexter; one daughter, Trish Jackson of Dexter; one sister, Etta Calhoon of Stillwater, Okla.; six granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two half brothers; and one sister.
There will be no visitation or funeral service.
Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery, in Cape Girardeau.
