He was united in marriage to Lora Sheppard. He later married Ruth Williams in 1956, and Mrs. Patton survives.
He had been a brakeman and conductor for Frisco Railroad from 1944-1972. He had been a cabinet maker in Glenallen for 30 years following retirement from railroad.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Prosser of Edwardsville, Ill., and Shelby Slinkard of Marion, Ill.; two sons, Darrell Patton of Springdale, Ark., and Roy Patton of Wood River, Ill.; one step-daughter, Karen Hayes of Dexter; two step-sons, Val Willis Williams of Greenville and Jerry Williams of Chaffee; 11 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters; and one son, Troy D. Patton.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at Hutchings Funeral Chapel.

Interment will follow at Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery in Marble Hill.
