The top-seeded Lady 'Cats led 27-19 at the half, but opened up a 20-point advantage early in the fourth quarter to waltz home with the win over the No. 8 seed. Career Academy posted a 22-5 record last season.
Senior Ashlee Taylor led the Lady 'Cats with 20 points, followed by Katelyn Heil with 16 and Jill Temples with 12.
Abbie Warren dropped in eight, while Cathryn Heil netted five and Kayla Joyner added two to round out the scoring for Dexter.
Dexter held a 30-21 rebounding advantage and connected on 8-of-12 free throws.
Katelyn Heil was forced to the bench early with foul trouble for Dexter which only has seven players on the varsity squad.
Dexter will now play the winner of the Sullivan-Cape Notre Dame winner in one semifinal Friday at 5 p. m. at the Farmington Civic Center.
Number 3 Farmington is scheduled to play No. 6 Oakville tonight at 5 p. m., while No. 2 Poplar bluff will take on No. 7 Jackson at 6:30 p. m. in the other first-round game. The winners of those two games will play Friday at 6:30 in the other semifinal game.
The title game is slated for Saturday at 5:30 with the third-place consolation game set for 1 o'clock.
