Audrey Walker Pope, daughter of the late Loren Howard Fritts and Edna Elizabeth Blakeman Fritts, was born on June 28, 1920, at Bernie and died in her residence at Bernie on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at the age of 88.
Mrs. Pope attended the First Pentecostal Church in Bernie, was a former restaurant waitress, cotton picker, and a resident of Bernie.
She was first united in marriage to Floyd Walker on Sept. 28, 1940, at Poplar Bluff. Mr. Walker preceded her in death. She then married Val Pope in 1920. Mr. Pope preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1982.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Walker of Holt Summit and Floyd Walker of Iowa City, Iowa; three daughters, Elaine Castro and Vicki Sayers, both of Bernie, and Ruth Ann Maderak of Aurora, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Fritts; and two sisters, Eula Wooten and Dorothy Fritts.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie with Rev. Joseph Geuin officiating.
Interment followed in the Bernie Cemetery.
