William "Bill" Mangum

William "Bill" Mangum, the son of the late Roscoe Conklin and Francis Louise Burton Mangum , was born in Blythville, Ark., on Jan. 29, 1929, and died at his home in Dexter on Jan. 2, 2009 at the age of 79.

Mr. Mangum had lived in Stoddard County since 1957. He was retired from the City of Bloomfield where he worked as street superintendent and was a member of the New Bethel General Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Bloomfield Saddle Club and enjoyed hunting and camping.

On Nov. 16, 1946, he was married to Betty Asalee Creasy in Piggott, Ark.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Mangum of Dexter; one son Michael William Mangum of Dexter; three daughters, Judy Ann Froemel of Hayward, Wis., Rose Conner of Gore Springs, Miss., and Angela Kay Wood of Bloomfield; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister: Reba Vernon of Ash Flat, Ark.

He was preceded in death by six sisters and seven brothers.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2009, at 1 p.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Bro. Dean Williams of Dexter officiating.

Interment will be in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
