Richard Caldwell, son of the late Oscar Caldwell, Jr., and Alice Murray Caldwell McClard, was born on Jan. 18, 1926, at Commerce and died in the Golden Living Center at Dexter on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at the age of 82.

Mr. Caldwell was a member of the Pleasant Grove Community Church near Dexter, of which his mother was a founding member, a farmer, retiring in 1993, a grain inspector for the State of Missouri where he retired in 2000, a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II, a member of the American Legion, a Third Degree Mason in the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge #153, and a resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Rowe on May 22, 1949, at Dexter. Mrs. Caldwell preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 2001.

Survivors include one son, Michael Caldwell of Doniphan; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Don Rolwing of Sikeston; three grandchildren, Laura LaPorte of Hernando, Miss., Jason Pounds of Sikeston and Codi Rolwing of Sikeston; one brother, Milford Caldwell of St. Louis; one sister, Imogene Wilson of St. Louis; one sister-in-law, Betty Heinlein of Belleville, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Gilbert McClard; and one brother, Oscar Caldwell.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ron Williams officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
