Shirley Jean Mitchell, daughter of the late Thomas and Flora Ruth Kenser Young, was born in Keiser, Ark., on Feb. 16, 1932, and died at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at the age of 76.

Mrs. Mitchell had lived in Puxico for several years and had lived in the Patton and Marble Hill area until 2006 when she moved to Cape Girardeau. She was retired from the Thorngate Limited Company and was a member of the Calvary Pentecost Church in Jackson. She enjoyed reading, sewing, bird watching and being with her family.

On Feb. 14, 1953, she was married to David E. Mitchell in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on May 25, 2001.

Surviving are three sons, David Glenn Mitchell of Fredericktown, Gordon Craig Mitchell of Cape Girardeau, and Michael Scott Mitchell of Marion, Ill.; three daughters, Patricia Ann Cooper of Puxico, Cathy Jean Allen of Leopold, and Carol Sue Mitchell of Kilgore, Texas; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Patsy Deloris Bishop of Jackson, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Carroll Richmond, Winfred Eugene, and Raymond Grady Young; and two sisters, Wilma Ruth Eaton and Lois Young.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico with Rev. David Jackson of St. Louis officiating.

Interment will be in the Duck Creek Cemetery near Puxico with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
