Veda Jewell Chailland

Veda Jewell Chailland, 83, of Bell City, was born Dec. 20, 1925, at Kennett, the daughter of Perry Ransom and Pearl Brotherton Bennett, and died Feb. 6, 2009, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau at the age of 83.

Veda was a 1944 graduate of Hornersville High School. She had worked at Thorngates in Chaffee. She was a member of the General Baptist Church in Bell City.

Veda and Herman Lee Chailland were united in marriage on Nov. 9, 1944, at Piggott, Ark., and he preceded her in death on March 16, 1996.

Survivors include three sons; Kenneth Chailland of Herculaneum, James Chailland of Oran and Craig Chailland of Farmington; three daughters; Judith Hinkle of Advance, Kathy Thomas of St. Louis, and Barbara Grubbs of Dexter; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance with Rev. James Johns officiating.

Interment followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Advance.
