Rev. Gipson was a member of the Sweet Prospect General Baptist Church in Dexter, a minister serving several General Baptist Churches in the area, a former maintenance worker for the Dexter Public School System and a resident of Dexter.
He was united in marriage to Macel L. Coffey on April 7, 1940, at Bloomfield. Mrs. Gipson survives of the home.
Besides his wife, survivors include three sons, Donald Gipson of Middlebury, Ind., Wayne Gipson of St. Charles, and Terry Gipson of Stillwater, Okla.; one brother, David Gipson of Banning, Calif.; five sisters, Oma Fowler, Delcie Waltrip and Dorothy Duba, all of Dexter, Nina Stewart of Poplar Bluff and Louise Owens of Malden; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gary Gipson; and one brother, Harold Hickson.
Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2009.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
