Five county schools participated in this year's event, in which high school seniors were asked to submit an essay with the focus on patriotism. Students from Advance, Bell City, Bloomfield, Dexter, and Richland submitted entries and from those received, one from each school was selected; and those students each were presented with the DAR's Good Citizen Award.
Additionally, one of the five wining entries was selected to receive the DAR's annual scholarship of $250, to be applied toward the student's college of choice.
Blake Burger from Bloomfield, the son of Rory and Christy Burger, was this year's recipient of the scholarship grant.
Good Citizen Awards were presented to Blake Lingle, the son of Ron and Ginger Hewitt and Aaron Lingle from Advance; Bethany Chilton, daughter of Bill and Roma Chilton from Bell City; Kayla Joiner, daughter of Stan and Anita Joiner of Dexter, and Dylan DeJournett from Richland, the son of David and Marilyn DeJournett.
