Newt Barber, son of the late William Barber and Ida Randolph Barber, was born on June 11, 1920 in Dexter and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on March 15, 2009, at the age of 88.

Mr. Barber was a former truck driver for Swift Company, member of the Dexter Church of Christ, and a resident of Dexter.

On Feb. 19, 1944, he was united in marriage to Maxine Courter in Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Barber survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, other survivors include three daughters, Sue Jones of Dexter, Brenda Nicolai of Jackson, Judy Barber of Kimmswick; one sister, Freda Henson of Dexter; also four grandchildren, Danny Jones, Randy Jones, Tammy Mantor, and Tim Nicolai; four great-grandchildren, Rilee Jones, Samantha Jones, Jared Mantor, and Blake Mantor.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, William "Sonny" Barber; and one brother, Deon Barber.

Visitation will take place at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 12-2 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2009.

Funeral services will then be conducted on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with Brother Dale Grissom officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
