John D.G. Cato, 62, a native of Dexter and resident of Schriever, La., lost his fight with cancer on Friday, March 13, 2009.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. at House of Prayer in Thibodaux, La.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Braud; three daughters, Angela Niehaus and husband Lester, Pamela Guidry and husband Felican "Pappy" and Linda Niehaus and husband Cary "Dino" of Louisiana; three sons, John "Scrappy" Cato of Louisiana, James Cato and wife Bethany of Louisiana, and Mark Cato and wife Tonya of Missouri; four brothers, Earl H. Cato and wife Carolyn of Louisiana, Richard Cato and wife Joan of Tennessee, Dale Cato and wife Connie of Tennessee, and Clayton Cato and wife Patricia of Missouri; three sisters, Patricia Smith and husband Charlie of Missouri, Nancy Clay and husband Gary of Missouri, and Judy Moore and husband Jack of Missouri; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Nellie Cato of Missouri; one sister, Mary Duckworth of Missouri; one half-brother; and six half-sisters.
He was general manager of Schriever Auto Parts for 27 years, and he was always "a little better than excellent"! He will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved him.
