In an agreement with The Daily Statesman, Park and Rec Director Lawson Metcalf, parents, umpires, and any interested parties who wish to be kept abreast of any athletic cancellations sponsored by Dexter's Park and Rec Dept. may now sign up to have an instant text message sent to their cell phone as soon as the decision is made to cancel an activity. This would include baseball and softball games that are city-sponsored from April through July.
The process to register for this free service is a simple one. Log onto www.dailystatesman.com and in the navigation bar at the top of the website homepage can be found an option called "Text Alert." Click on the "Text Alert" sign. Some simple steps to follow will then appear that will place subscribers on a list that automatically receives a free text message (unless your phone carrier charges for text messages outside your purchased package).
Once the P&R director makes the decision to cancel or delay a game, that message will go out instantly to all who have signed up online on the Textcaster system.
Users will also see several other options they might wish to consider for instant messages with regard to Dexter Schools, local sports, weather alerts and more.
"The Textcaster system is an ever-growing notification system and is proving itself as a valuable tool in this day of improving technology. Signing on is easy, and it is absolutely a free service of The Daily Statesman," says Bobby Greer, the Daily Statesman's Special Projects Manager.
