Billie Jean Ellis, the daughter of the late Robert Arthur and Lula Bell McPeak Maclin, was born in Luxora, Ark., on Aug. 29, 1931, and died at her home in Dexter on March 28, 2009, at the age of 77.

Mrs. Ellis grew up in Luxora, Ark., and moved with her husband to southern Illinois where they lived until they moved to Dexter in 1979. She retired from Elder Manufacturing where she worked as a seamstress and was of the Baptist Faith.

On Dec. 12, 1949, she was married to Marion F. Ellis in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 1995.

Surviving are one daughter, April Barfoot of Campbell; and one son, Phillip Ellis of Dexter; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, R. A. Maclin of Malden, A. L. Maclin of Parma, and John Maclin of Bernie; three sisters, Marie Parker of Broseley, Ruby Green of Keiser, Ark. and Mary Hutson of Hillard. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one brother J. B. Maclin; and one sister Louellen Ollis.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, after 11 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Bill Pennington of Bloomfield officiating.

Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
