Woodrow E. Jones

Woodrow E. Jones, son of the late Edward Jones and Effie Woolard Jones, was born on July 17, 1924, at Dexter and died in the Bertrand Retirement Home on April 10, 2009 at the age of 84.

Mr. Jones was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II, a former employee of International Shoe Company in Dexter, a former truck driver for Keener Gravel Company in Dexter, a member of the Kenady-Hanks American Legion Post #59, and a resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Helen Gaines on January 12, 1944 at Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Jones survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Donald E. and Paula Jones of Dexter; one grandson, Thad Jones of Plano, Texas; and one sister, Janice Scates of Bethalto, Ill.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Chester McFarland and Glen McFarland; three sisters, Dora "Babe" Wooley, Pauline Kilmer, and Lena Miller.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2009.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Herman Morse officiating.

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Memorials may be made to the Stoddard County Children's Home.
