Mr. Walters was a lifelong resident of Stoddard County, attended the rural Dickerson Grade School, loved to hunt and worked as a farmer. He was also a member of the Vinson General Baptist Church.
He was united in marriage to Essie Lee Wicks on April 27, 1940. Mrs. Walters survives of the home.
Besides his wife, survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Herman (Jack) and Norman Jean Jackson of Dexter, Jim and Elnora Bernard of Reedsville, Ohio, and Dennis and Janice Allen of Geneva, Ill.; six grandchildren, Cerendia (Jackson) and Ray Woollums of Dexter, Keith Jackson of Las Vegas, Nev., Rob and Jackie Allen of Hampshire, Ill., Jerry and Carrie (Bernard) Jenkins of Vienna, W.Va., Clayton and Kathy (Bernard) Wolfe-Lambert of Jackson, Ohio, and Vince and April (Allen) Salazar of Geneva, Ill.; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica and Ashley Seymore, both of Dexter, Madison Jenkins and Alex Jenkins of Vienna, W.Va., Alainna Allen and Sophia Allen of Hampshire, Ill., Cayton Lambert and Carissa Lambert of Jackson, Ohio, and Veronica Salazar and Anthony Salazar of Geneva, Ill.; a step-great-grandson, Chad Woollums of Cape Girardeau; and four step-great-great-grandchildren, Emma Self, James, Kaylee and Chad Woollums, Jr., of Cape Girardeau; along with many other family members.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren; and two brothers, Dale Lee and Ralph Junior Walters.
Visitation was held from 12-2 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter.
Funeral services were then conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009, in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel with Brother Kenneth Lambert officiating.
Interment followed at the Dexter Cemetery.
