Maxine Lemons, the daughter of the late Herman Adam and DottieNothdurft Maisel, was born in Perryville on Nov. 23, 1923, and died at her home in Dexter on April 25, 2009, at the age of 85.

Mrs. Lemons had lived in Dexter most all her life. She worked for many years as a shipping clerk for Elders Manufacturing in Dexter. She attended church at the Faith Lutheran Church in Dexter. After retirement, she worked as a volunteer at the Stoddard County Gospel Mission. She was awarded Yard Of The Year eight times and won Christmas Yard Of The Year several times.

She was married to William Russell Lemons on Dec. 6, 1941. He preceded her in death in April 1997.

Surviving are one son Bill Lemons of Dexter; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters Evelyn Boyd of Ste. Genevieve and Verla Klaus of Friedheim. Other relatives and many friends also survive.

Visitation was held on Monday, April 27, 2009, from 5-8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Dexter with the Rev. Adam Mueller of Cape Girardeau officiating.

Intermen followed in the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
