Eugene "Pete" Carson, son of the late Eldra Dee Carson and Jenny Mae Lane Carson was born on Oct. 22, 1923 at Jonesboro, Ark., and departed this life in the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on April 28, 2009, at the age of 85.

Mr. Carson was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, having served as Staff Sergeant of Company K, 359th Infantry, 90th Division, having received both the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After his service for his country he was a farmer, a 60-year member of the Bernie Masonic Lodge #573 and was a Third Degree Mason. He was a member of the Bernie Christian Alliance Church.

He was united in marriage to Nadine Glass on Aug. 25, 1940, at Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Carson survives of the home in Bernie.

Besides his wife, he was survived by one son, Junior Carson of Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters, Jean Carson Moroni of Advance and Linda "Penny" Carson Dawson of Bernie; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death other than by his parents by seven brothers, Lawrence Carson, Carl Carson, Frank Carson, Dawsey Carson, Lloyd Carson, John and Robert Carson.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. with funeral services following.

Graveside services will be conducted on May 1, 2009, starting at 2 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
