Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Oran 14, Richland 1

The Eagles busted the game wide open with a 12-run third inning.

Zac Chasteen led Oran with three hits and four RBIs. Jake Carter added one hit and two RBIs.

Andrew Thornton drove in the Rebels lone run with an RBI double.

Adam Schaefer pitched a complete, one-hit game for Oran in his winning effort. He aslo struck out seven.

Chaffee 16, Scott County Central 4

ORAN -- The momentum that the Scott County Central Braves had generated on the diamond may not have resulted into many wins over the past few weeks, but it did have the Braves playing some of their best baseball heading into the Class 1, District 2 tournament.

Unfortunately, they couldn't keep it rolling against their first round opponent Chaffee on Monday afternoon as the Red Devils ended their season with a 16-4 five inning loss.

"In the last two weeks we were hitting a pretty good stride," Scott Central coach Spencer Whitehead said. "Today (Monday) we just got outplayed by a team. Our pitcher kept it low for us and got us ground balls we just didn't make the plays. That resulted into some timely hits for them."

Chaffee took advantage of Scott Central's miscues early and often. The Red Devils scored in each inning they came to the plate and was able to bat through their lineup twice in four innings. They scored one run in the first, six in the second, three in the third and six in the fourth.
