Lillian Merle Grubbs Kinder

Lillian Merle Grubbs Kinder, daughter of the late William Alvin Long and Sarrah Long, was born on April 29, 1918, at Rector, Ark., and died in the St. Louis University Hospital on June 12, 2009, at the age of 91.

Mrs. Kinder was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter, a former cook at the Hickory House Restaurant in Dexter, a former employee of Dexter Memorial Hospital working in the housekeeping department and a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Charley Grubbs on June 30, 1934 at Kennett. Mr. Grubbs preceded her in death on October 30, 1974. She was then married to Joe Kinder in October 1987 at Dexter. Mr. Kinder preceded her in death in 1995.

She is survived by three sons, Bob Grubbs of Tulsa, Okla., Charley Junior Grubbs and Jerry Grubbs, both of Dexter; five daughters, Mildred Louise Ellis, Sue Duckworth, Mary Ann Reel and Linda Kestner, all of Dexter, and Glenda May Story of Paducah, Ky.; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Dottie Kay Grubbs; two brothers, William Alva Long and John Linley Long; five sisters, Gladys Alberta Boyd, Ruby Kirkpatrick, Dorcas Hall, Marie Grubbs and Clara Lawson; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2009.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating.

Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery.
