Joshua Alan Penick, son of Randy Penick of Dexter and Carroll Alsup Dowdy of Dexter, was born on April 29, 1982 at Portland, Ore. and died in the Saint Francis Medical Center at Cape Girardeau on June 18, 2009 at the age of 27.

Joshua was a member of the Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church in Long Beach, Calif., the owner of SEMO Painting in Dexter and a resident of Dexter.

He is survived by his mother, Carroll Alsup Dowdy of Dexter: by his father Randy Penick and fiance', Debbie of Dexter: by his paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Mary and Loy Cannon of Long Beach, Calif.: by his paternal grandfather, Alan Penick of Dexter: by his paternal great-grandmother, Mary Tanner of Bernie: by one step-uncle, Mike Cannon of Long Beach, Calif.: by three step-aunts, Tammy Cannon of Long Beach, Calif., Donna Cannon and Lorie Cannon both of Essex: by two uncles and aunts, Ben and Tiffany Penick of Lakewood, Calif. and Junior and Betty Alsup of Bloomfield: by cousins, Jamisen Penick and Emily Penick both of Lakewood, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Harold and Gwendolyn Alsup and by one uncle, Richard Alsup.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2009. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jim Hook and Loy Cannon officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery.
