Typical of the 24 hour "news" channels. Jackson was a severely troubled talent,Farrah Fawcett was an aging beauty icon and a bum magnet for pretty bad boys. Neither deserve more than a footnote in the history of the world, despite their talents, but you got to sell tabloids and ad space on tv.Their lives were messy, their deaths sad and untimely, but the retelling of their deaths will be gruesome, tedious, repetitive and those wishing to cash in-eternal.Rehashing every minute, every sordid detail in the "Anna Nicole Smith" style is my prediction.
Yawn,I'm over them already...
The media has to do what ever it can to draw attention away from Obama's failure to support the protesters in Iran, rising unemployment numbers, and sinking poll numbers...even if it means giving fawning wall-to-wall coverage to a known pedophile.
Media is yet another arm of our political system which is a complete joke. Arrogant, power-driven, self centered, self promoters........Media personality or politician? Answer is BOTH.
I realize that Jackson was a Pop Star. Not too long ago, he was vilified for "sleeping" with kids at various places. Most of the parents were paid off so he would not get jail time. Now all of a sudden, this lunatic is an "Idol" and in the same class as Elvis Presley, just because he died. Why has all of the problems, the United States is in, that have been caused by another lunatic, in our Government, been put on the back burner, by our news media - both Printed News and TV News ??? Even Iran has been shut down, good thing all of the voting has been done, we might have missed all of the Demonstration Excitement !!! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Jackson is also an " Icon " , whatever that is, and I'm sure somebody will tell me. It could be that my Key Board made another stupid error in typing. Maybe I'll get a new Key Board for Xmas !!!
Too much of Jackson and not near enough of Fawcett. But I think most of y'all know why!
I know exactly what you mean Swift.
We don't need to be protesting elections in other countries with all the mess we're going through now. Enough of trying to rule the world already.
Jacko said it best: They'll kick you and they'll beat you and they'll tell you it's fair, so beat it.
Wacko Jacko is what I say! Could he dance? Probably better than anyone else. Could he sing? You betcha! Was he a nut case? Most definitely. He was probably one of the most dysfunctional people ever. And now the media will hash and rehash the reasons for the way that he was. He was what he was and I am sorry he died. Enough already!
Great post Layne. Who knew he could see into the future....I just can't wait until everyone is equal, that will be so much fun.
Nobody can begin to understand what it is like to have the kind of fame MJ did. Yes, he was accused of child molestation. He settled out of court on the first charge but the second charge he was found innocent after a trial. I must say as odd as he was he was not only a musical genius but also brought to light some very serious global issues through his music including hunger and racial issues that made us all think. I don't think Elvis was able to accomplish that. God had a purpose for Michael and gave him a gift to accomplish it. I don't know about the rest of the accusations because I wasn't there. But I do know what he contributed through his music and that shouldn't be taken lightly. R.I.P. Michael.
Ed - old age - was going to come sooner or later. Farrah - another PERSON lost a fight to cancer; at least when celebrities battle cancer, etc. it puts a focus on the disease that wouldn't be otherwise. Although she was the poster girl of the 70's and involved in a few scandals, as are all celebrities, she was never really weird or pulling some of the crazy stunts that current celebs are. The last few years have been quiet other than an occassional newspost about her cancer. Michael - different story. Sometimes I think he has led the pack in weird and stupid, just to stay in the lime light. One article said that he told Lisa Marie that he would die just like Elvis -- that makes me wonder if this was plotted. Concert tour coming up - Elvis had another concert scheduled. Drugs involved in Elvis's death - looks like they are a factor in MJ's death. One story said he was asking for a sedative (strong enough to put you to sleep for surgery) b/c he couldn't sleep - maybe a real day's work would help him sleep, rather than being waited on hand and foot, etc ---I know I certainly don't have any problem fallig asleep at night.
I do feel that TOO much attention is being focused on MJ. He certainly isn't the kind of example that I would want my kids to watch. I do still have my copy of the 1982 "Thriller" album - it was a gift, I wouldn't have purchased it for myself. Otherwise, he was just another HUMAN, and he's dead. (BTW, I did have to explain to my teenage daughter who each of these people were and why they were "famous". She wasn't impressed with any of them - LOL!!)
Check the obits in this paper. There are everyday working family people that have died in the last week. As a community, we need to honor THEM and quit worrying about Hollywood.
He was the king of pop. I loved his music.
Even the old folks like me can appreciate Jackson's music. I used to walk in the park with my kids' Walkman to "Beat it," and "Thriller"! However, when it came to learning about his private life, I turned off the news. We've seen it happen over and over - very talented people are often extremely STRANGE! His world must have been a nightmare for everyone touching it.
Too much Michael, not enough Farrah. It's common sense, or you would think so. Farrah died of a disease that's claimed the lives of so many other people, and I'm sure there's something to be learned from her individual story. They're thinking Micheal OD'd. So, which is more important for our kids to worry about...cancer or how to OD? Our media is all about the wrong stuff, all the time. I'm sick of seeing stuff about MJ!
Amen, Mrs. Dolphin! Hey, I haven't seen your comments in awhile on Dexter Topix!
The media is using their idol, MJ as a diversion tool to get the attention of the sheeple off more important things! Dolphin mentioned the cancer that killed Fawcett which should've been emphasized. Crap 'n Trade is headed for the Senate. I guess World Net Daily gives much better news coverage of the issues and news that really matter! http://www.wnd.com/
Yeah Swift, Topix was my thing for a couple months, and then I had some psycho chick trying to start stuff about me that wasn't true, so I said to heck with it!
I understand that some of you see MJ as some super-star or whatever, and I'm not saying he wasn't talented, but c'mon! He hasn't had a good NEW hit out in how long? Carrie Underwood is doing better RIGHT NOW than he's done in YEARS...so what's the point in rehashing his death over and over and over? At least Farrah fought an honest fight and apparently lost...but it was gracefully.
Michael was a well known tv entertainer like no other..and now they just can't quit talking about him and his music and its getting a little boring,so I say,"enough is enough"
Amen !! enough is enough, they've run it in the ground, poor Farrah fought to live, MJ done himself in, so i'm tired of hearing about that crazy man.
Swift, you see media plots behind every tree. The media is what it is -- blown by every wind of change. They don't PLAN diversions -- they ARE diversions. They're giving the mob what they want -- more Michael Jackson. I seriously doubt that they're trying to divert attention from something else. They just go the way the wind blows.
I agree GOAT. The media wouldn't try to divert anything, or try to slant anything, or report anything in a biased nature, or work to get a particular candidate elected, or be 79% supportive of a particular party. No way, not in our country.
You are an idiot. My post was 100% sarcastic and GOAT knows it.
Have a Happy 4th.
Just trying to figure out why Farrah isn't getting even a 1/4th of the publicity that Michael is. I think she deserves it. It's like the news media says she died and that's it. If you can't tell, I am not a Michael Jackson fan. Never was...... Never will be.... So beat it...
Starred on Charlie's Angels for ONE year. Posed in a poster smuggling raisins......she doesn't deserve it either. They are both dead "stars"....now if the story can only die as well.
I agree with ya Hoon...
Sweet.....Sweet.
I say too much coverage, who cares, death does not care how much money you have, how famous you are and has no preferences, when it's your time it's your time. People die everyday and our turn will come so what.
Sorry off topic, but it seems Mayor Joe Webber was arrested for drunk driving in Poplar Bluff. I did not believe it until verified on the Missouri Highway Patrol Arrest site at http://www.mshp.dps.mo.gov/HP71/search.j... What kind of image and example is this for our town?
Could happen to anyone. The days of going out to dinner, having a couple beers, and cruising slowly home are over.
