Missouri Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary and is structured to meet the following objectives:
* To develop leadership and pride in American citizenship;
* To educate citizens about the US system of government;
* To instill a greater understanding of American traditions; and
* To stimulate a desire to maintain US government processes.
The director of Girls State is Natalie Riley of Dexter. Dee Wamble of Dexter is a staff member serving as Post Mistress and Assistant Banker.
The auxiliary sponsors Girls State with Dexter civic clubs contributing to one of the students attending.
The Dexter Elks Club #2439 contributed to sending Boone. At Girls State, Boone served on the City Central Committee, the County Central Committee, was a delegate and was the city secretary. She also was in the State Choir.
The Dexter Kiwanis contributed to sending Warren. Warren was on the Highway Patrol and participated in the Talent Show.
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 59 contributed to sending Kaitlyn Phillips. Phillips was a city delegate and served as a police officer.
The Dexter Lions Club helped sponsor Marcy Shaffer. Shaffer served as an election official, police chief and was nominated as an Outstanding Political Citizen.
The Dexter Rotary Club helped sponsor Sarah Phillips. Phillips served as city representative and was the county collector's deputy.

Congrats to these young ladies. Hopefully someone as smart as Claire McCaskill or Jean Carnahan will be the keynote speaker.
This is a great program, I was lucky enough in 1949 (years ago) to go to Boys State at Kemper Military Academy in Boonville and it has stayed with me forever. I left from Cville, Mo. with Cheryl Crowe's dad, he's now a lawyer in Kennett.
