Mr. Leirer graduated from East St. Louis, Ill. High School and then attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe. He started farming in Gideon, on land that is now the Gideon Memorial Airport. He served as New Madrid County Farm Reporter, County ASCD Committee Man and Community ASCS Committee Man from 1936-1972. He was co-founder and charter stock holder of McCord Gin and served as President and Board of Directors member from 1960 -2007, was on Board of Directors of Arbyrd Cotton Cooperation from 1994 -2007, was one of the original members of the Gideon United Methodist Church and active in church and men's groups and a resident of Gideon.
He was united in marriage to Eleanor Sadler on Aug. 5, 1934 in Bernie. Mrs. Leirer preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 2006.
