Sam Winford Huey, son on the late Sam William Huey and Mary Vannoy Huey, was born on May 27, 1931, in Parma and died at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on July 26, 2009, at the age of 78.

Mr. Huey was retired from the University of Missouri Extension office, a farmer, a veteran of the United Sates Army, retired from the Missouri National Guard 1221st Transportation Unit in Dexter, a member of Kenady-Hanks American Legion Post #59. He was also a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter, Stoddard County Fair Board, and a resident of Dexter. In 1996 he was Dexter Man of the Year.

On Feb. 7, 1953 he was united in marriage to Irene Dieter in Malden. Mrs. Huey survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, Irene Huey, other survivors include three sons, Sam Huey and wife Jeanie, Mick Huey and wife Linda, and Bill Huey and wife Robinn, all of Dexter; two daughters, Anita Joyner and husband Stan and Debby Agey and husband David, both of Dexter; one sister, Nadine Boon-Leonard and husband Fraser of St. Charles; 12 grandchildren, Crystal Bishop, Sam (Bo) Huey, Ashley Jarrell, Jason Huey, Megan Agey, Matthew Agey, Taylor Joyner, Kayla Joyner, Ryan Joyner, Celeste Huey, Wesley Huey, and Braxton Huey; also six great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin Huey and three at infancy; one sister, Florence Huey; and also one grandson, David Samuel Morgan Agey.

A Catholic prayer service will be conducted at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2009, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter, with visitation to begin immediately following the prayer service.

Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m.Thursday, July 30, 2009 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter with Father David Dohogne officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
