Lan, now 71, had graduated from high school and had just returned from training in the Army Reserves.
Irma, now 67, was still living at home with her parents, Osby and Viola Brewer, when she met Lan in 1957.
Irma saw he was wearing an FFA jacket and looked older. Lan just kept staring at Irma without waiver. Irma was hesitant to make the announcement in front of the church about the GA club meeting that was her responsibility.
They met, began dating and fell in love. They married Feb. 15, 1959, at the Bement Baptist Church.
Lan had grown up on a farm and knew the farming life, so the couple settled down in Bertrand with a farm of their own.
Irma gave birth to their eldest child, Tambra in 1961 at Sikeston while still farming in the area. Next came Micheal in 1962 and Mark in 1965.
Lan and Irma moved to Kentucky so that Lan could have a larger farm to support their growing family. While living there, they had two more children, Julie in 1968 and Jennifer in 1971.
In 1972 the family moved to Dexter to live for the next 18 years. During this time, Lan founded a fertilizer company to supply to farmers.
He still loves his work with farmers and Irma still travels with him some as he works all over the United States with farmers from coast to coast.
The couple now has 15 grandchildren to spoil, ranging in age from 21 to 3 years old.
Lan and Irma attribute their continued love, devotion and 50 years with each other to their faith in Jesus Christ.
