Sylvia Roxine Gaines Terrill, daughter of the late Charles Roscoe and Lucy Ann Ruggles Farmer, was born in Norwood on Sept. 1, 1922, and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at the age of 86.
Mrs. Terrill had lived in Dexter most of her life. She had worked and retired from Elder Manufacturing. She was affiliated with General Baptist Church.
In 1939, she was married to Cleatis Gaines in Bloomfield. He preceded her in death in 1984. In 1991 she married Paul Terrill in Bernie. He also preceded her in death.
Surviving are four sons, Richard Gaines and John "Bill" Gaines, both of Dexter, Ray Woods of Tucson, Ariz., and Ronnie Gaines of Knob Noster; two daughters, Shirley Dowdy of Chaffee and Nancy Tilley of Bloomfield; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lavelle Gold of Cape Girardeau, Yvonne Taylor of Wappapello, and Frankie Kinder of Dexter; two brothers, Charles and Allen Farmer, both of Dexter.
Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one son, Cleatis Wayne Gaines; five brothers; and three sisters.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter.
Interment will follow in the Caroline Dowdy Cemetery near Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
