A 24-year-old Campbell woman charged with the May 2009 murder of her infant daughter, appeared in court on Wednesday, Aug. 26, with her defense requesting an appearance reset.

Joanna Faucett and her attorney, Public Defender Charles Hirth, appeared before Judge Stephen Sharp, with an appearance being reset to Nov. 30, at the request of the defense attorney, according to Assistant Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Jonce Chidister.

Faucett was arrested in May 2009 in connection with the death of her one-month-old daughter, after authorities discovered that the infant appeared to have been strangled to death. She remains in custody at the Dunklin County Justice Center on a $100,000 bond.

Chidister has said the child was one of a set of triplets, however, the other infants were not at the home at the time of the incident.

In July 2008, Faucett had another infant who died at 16-days-old, believed at the time to be due to a co-sleeping incident.

I suffered from post-partum depression after birth, and it is no picnic. However, killing a child is never, ever acceptable. If this woman was suffering from PPD, she should have gotten help. The family (or friends) should have been alert enough to pick up on it. Whether she was or not, this is unconscionable. Forgive me if I misspelled that. And for it to have happened twice, well, I can't type those words here.
