L. L. "Louis" McConnell

L. L. "Louis" McConnell, son of the late Eddie Cleveland and Beula Gale Stephenson McConnell, was born in Cabot, Ark. on May 4, 1921, and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at the age of 88.

Mr. McConnell had lived in Southeast Missouri most of his life and moved to Dexter from Sikeston in 1951. He had owned McConnell's Gas Station for 29 years and L & L Trucking before his retirement. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army.

On Dec. 24, 1941, he was married to Frankie Anita "Shorty" Johnson in Charleston. She preceded him in death on Dec. 29, 1999.

Surviving are one daughter, Judy Casey of Dexter; one son, L. E. McConnell, Sr. of Siloam Springs, Ark.; three grandchildren; Brian Keith Casey and Eugene McConnell, Jr., both of Dexter, and Rebecca Ann McConnell of New Madrid; two great-grandchildren, Madison Taylor McConnell and Wyatt Ethen McConnell, both of Dexter. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mattie, Maggie, and Mozell; and four brothers, Floyd, Athel, Tobe and Paul.

Visitation was held on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, from 5-8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Tim Russell of Dexter officiating.

Interment followed in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with full military rites, and Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter was in charge of arrangements.
