Phillips competed at the state pageant along with 53 other contestants. The pageant consisted of different age divisions including a Little Miss and Mr. Missouri pageant as well as a Jr. Miss, Teen and Miss Missouri pageant.
Phillips will go on to compete for the national title in July 2010 in Chicago, Ill. Her platform for the pageant is "Tolerance and Diversity", which is a diversity-based program. Phillips volunteers for the local Parents as Teachers Program and coaches several young girls' cheer squads for Impact Gymnastics in Dexter. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Fellowsip of Christian Althletes, Rotary Interact and FTA.
Phillips was twice selected as Stoddard Co All-County Cheerleader and also selected by the Rotary Club as a delegate to attend Missouri Girls State. Pageant officials, Lisa Boyer & Jill Worley, commented they were very impressed with Phillips and her commitment to her platform.
"She is a genuine person and a true role model for young women," Boyer said. "We are very blessed to have her represent Missouri."
Boyer further explained that Phillips is available to speak about her "Tolerance and Diversity" program to girl scout troops, youth groups and junior high age students.
Phillips said during the competition that she believes Martin Luther King, Jr.'s words express her feelings regarding her platform best.
"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."
