Tuesday wreck victim taken to St. Louis

Friday, October 30, 2009
Julie Hemerley, the 45-year-old Dexter woman who suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday, was scheduled to be transferred today to a St. Louis hospital to undergo surgery, according to a family member who contacted The Daily Statesman with an update on her condition.

According to Hemerley's sister, Samantha Gootnis, Hemerley was scheduled to be flown to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis where she will undergo surgery as a result of her injuries.

Dexter Police responded to the accident at Two Mile and Arvin Roads just after 3:30 Tuesday afternoon after Hemerley had reportedly pulled into the path of an oncoming pickup truck and suffered critical injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Southern Missouri Healthcare where she was stabilized. She was then transferred to St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

According to her sister, Hemerley sustained a fractured pelvis and two broken vertebrae in her back, a laceration to her liver and a concussion. She has reportedly been kept sedated and on a ventilator at the Cape facility.
