"With Marilyn's gregarious personality and vivacious way, she had a special way of touching the lives of all she met," says Cheryl Edwards, a sister to Williams, "and the family would like to invite the public to be a part of this special day to honor her memory."
As well as serving in the House of Representatives, Williams was a local businesswoman as owner of Fiddler's Restaurant in Dexter and was an active member of the local Chamber of Commerce and several civic organizations throughout the area.
Following a 10-year tenure in the House, Williams served as Director of Professional Registration and Senate Chief of Staff for Minority Leader Maida Coleman.
The Williams and Taylor families have requested that anyone wishing to honor Marilyn's legacy, may do so by contributing to The Taylor Family's Scholarship Fund through which a female high school graduate, pursuing a Career in Public Service, will be recognized each year in Williams' honor. Any contributions should be directed to: The Bayless Taylor Family Memorial Scholarship Fund, In Memory of Marilyn Taylor Williams, c/o Edward Jones, P. O, Box 35, Dexter, Mo. 63841. Contributions may also be directed to The American Cancer Society, Auntie M Project, c/0 Emma Kate Worley, 703 Ellare Ln., Dexter, Mo. 63841. All proceeds, family members confirm, will be donated to the ACS.

Lifetime tribute... didn't she host a party for her son or something, back in the late 90's, where a bunch of a teenagers got drunk at her house, got in a car accident, and one of them named John Kahoe died?
Very inappropriate, you are truly backwards.
You might not like it but the X is right. Politicians should be held to the same standards as the rest of us. Corruption is rampent and she was a bad egg, so was Jerry T. and Mouser.
I've known Marilyn for fifty years. How dare you post something so cruel and inaccurate about her. Don't you people have any morals? She has a family who are in mouring. They are the ones you will be hurting by your inappropriate and insensitive remarks.
Secondly, thebackwardx, you have your facts all wrong. Marilyn didn't host the party for her son, she wasn't even there. She was in Jeff City at the time. Apparently, you aren't a parent or you, if you are, you either don't realize or won't admit that your teenage children will do things they were taught not to do when the parents are away or they are away from their parents. Everyone, including teenagers, knows they aren't supposed to drink and drive, but they did it anyway. The wreck nor the alcohol was in any way Marilyn's fault. Why don't you blame the one responsible....the teen who chose to drive when he was drunk? His actions that night cost the lives of two young people. I know, my friends' daughter died in that wreck, too.
How dare you blame Marilyn for this and how dare you dishonor her memory with this trash.
thebackwardx..YOU are a cowardly scumbag. I would like to punch you right in the side of your no-class neck. You just knocked yourself way down the ladder bobby. You guys could have held your vicious comments in reserve for a much different venue. God..I despise cowardly, unthinking, idiots.
I absolutely cannot believe the audacity of you, thebackwardx, or you, bobbywayne. How dare you idiots come on here and say that BS? You both need to do some real soul searching and figure out what is broken inside and do something to fix it. I'm with '72...and you know what? I would bet we could sell tickets to watch us mop the parking lot with you two and make LOTS of money for her scholarship fund and the Cancer Society. It's a good thing I'm way down here in Texas, 'cause it sure wouldn't be a good thing if I could get my hands on you right now...but, I will say this..I am a Christian and you'd better believe I will be doing some major praying for God to deal with you.
Now to all of you who are DHS graduates of 1972. We will be having a class reunion, one way or another. There are lots of us on Facebook and I will be getting the word out soon...don't know how it will all play out, but this one is for Marilyn.
It was phrased as a question. I didn't SAY anything happened.
Also I didn't realize that she had died or I wouldn't have posted that remark. The admin can feel free to delete it and I apologize if any of her family was offended.
And to Bearcat72 and other internet tough guys... grow up. Threatening violence anonymously upon anonymous people is the height of idiocy. Sign your name to your threats or get lost. No one wants to read your power fantasy.
whitefawn said - "Marilyn didn't host the party for her son, she wasn't even there. She was in Jeff City at the time."
I don't believe that. I know I heard, at the time, from kids who had gone to that party that she was around. Maybe it's not true but a lot of people are under that impression.
And BarbaraNTexas, you've gone over the line and your threats are near to being criminal. Why not go ahead and post your contact information to prove what a coward you aren't.
I don't care about "sensitivity" or any of that BS. My point is that people ALL have feet of clay.
At least I'm not a chicken sh** hiding on the 'net. Funny getting threats from people who live far away, AND a school fight with the class of '72. FUNNY!
bobby wayne..the genius and philosopher. You are right about one thing. YOU are very funny...and pretty sad too.
by the way..backwardx...you didn't even read the article did you? Quote: "Also I didn't realize that she had died or I wouldn't have posted that remark."
You and bobby need to go to Sonny's and share a Schlitz.
Don't drink '72, and the timing may have been poor. but it is my understanding that 1; no she was not in Jeff City and 2; her husband did in fact plead guilty to supplying to minors. Just another thing for Stoddard Co. to sweep aside.
Well, bobby wayne, you need to check Missouri Case Net. (It goes back to 1996 and the incident happened in September 1998, so it would be on there.) Rick Williams was never charged with anything of the sort, so he couldn't have pled guilty to it. I know, I checked Case Net before I started posting this. The boy who was driving was charged, tried and convicted.
And, as for your allegation that Marilyn was home....sorry, wrong again. I spoke with the brother of the girl who was killed and he said that neither parent was home. Also, my family has scanners and the conversation on it was that they had called her at her residence in Jeff City and was awaiting her arrival. I also know officers who were there who confirmed this fact. I have my facts straight from the sources. Makes me wonder where you are getting your information from ....the Rob Mayer's election campaign ads when he ran against Marilyn for House of Representatives? I thought at that time that it was a low, dirty way to try to win votes and I think it's a low, dirty way to talk about someone who's passed away.
whitefawn, thanks for the information, now be ready to take a bashing.
You remember a conversation and what you heard on the scanners from 11 years age?
Ever hear of people taking a plea and in the plea it says that after X ammount of time it will be expunged from the record?
Sorry for Marylin's death and even sorrier to rehash old news. We all have our views and I appluad whitefawn's memory.
Dexterite1, you're welcome. Why should I be ready to take a bashing? What I stated in my last post were the facts. Anyone can look up case net files on their computer, it's all there for the public to view. If you speaking of the comment on Mayer's campaign ads, those are the truth, too. In fact, those ads were actually the determining factor for a lot of my family and friends of whom to vote for when election day came, which is one reason why I remember it. The main reason I remember it is because friends of mine lost their only daughter and I thought it was in very bad taste for the campaign ads to use the tragic loss of their child to win votes. Do I know if Mayer, himself, approved the ads that were printed by his campaign staff? No, I don't nor did I state in my earlier post that I did (just to clarify it before someone jumps on that one, too.)
I had the opportunity to get to know Marylin and Rick back in the '80s as a young man active in Boy Scouting. Marylin was a Democrat.....I am not.....but both Marylin and Rick are class acts, they are some of the finest people I've had the priviledge of knowing, and my heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Rick. I am truly saddened to hear this news.
Whitefawn, I agree totally with what you said, any time the truth comes out there are others that twist things around and post without thinking of anyone but their selves.
To BackwardX and Bobby Wayne...
I have no idea who you people are, but I pity you. You can imagine my anger and sadness when I logged on this morning to read the tribute to my aunt. Instead of my attention being focused on reading the press release, I was drawn to your false and disrespectful words. We're all entitled to our opinion, but think of how you would feel if this was YOUR family member. My Aunt M was not a "bad egg." She worked her entire life to make Stoddard County a better place. Ignorant people like the two of you are one of the many reasons I left Dexter and will never live there again. Shame on you.
Thank you Shannon for your post, I can only imagine how this hurts, but please believe the most people (the ones who really matter), have the most respect for Marilyn.
Shannon,
I grew up in church with your aunt Marilyn and she was always the nicest, kindest person anyone could ask for. After we were grown, no matter what was going on in her life, she always stopped to visit when I would see her out in town, even if she could only stop for a minute or two. I will always hold her in the highest esteem and I will always consider her my friend. I will miss her.
It is a shame that the Taylor & Williams families have to read the vindictiveness expressed by some people.
The statements by thebackwardx and bobbywayne are completely unacceptable. They obviously never heard the saying: If you can't say something nice, don't say anything.
Dredging up completely unsubstantiated information about a horrific accident is the height of stupidity.
My sympathy goes out to the family of Marilyn. I also hope that they know the ill-advised statements by a few are not the feelings of everyone.
I am relatively new to this area. We moved to Stoddard County in '96. Athough her political party was not what we liked, she deserves honor and tribute for the hard work she did do while representing us. We may not like her faults (who doesn't have any?), but she deserves this tribute.
Folks, we need to put politics aside on this one, and most of y'all know my poitical opinions and opposition to alcohol, etc. This is a time we as Stoddard Countians need to just unite in honor of this lady and her legacy! I'm sure our State Rep, Billy Pat Wright would say the same thing!
Add me to the furious list! I have been proud to have Marilyn as my friend since we were teenagers. There is not a finer woman anywhere. I am so "darn" sorry that I read this nonsense by bobby and backwardx. They used heresay to defame a person of integrity and compassion. I would hope the administrators would see fit to delete this entire column, aside from those who knew Marilyn for who she was and who are contributing to her honor. That was the purpose of this column! God bless your wicked souls!
Marilyn Taylor Williams remains one of the bright spots in my memories of Dexter. She was clever, intelligent, and absolutely a pleasure with whom to speak. She kept her conversations pleasant and positive. She was a Lady--in the old-fashioned way. Shannon, are you the red-haired niece about whom Marilyn bragged??
Administrators, please delete the disrespectful and ERRANT entries above. This article was to announce a tribute to a deserving and much beloved citizen of Stoddard County. Marilyn has friends all over this country, not just in Dexter. Please preserve the honorable tribute she deserves by removing the trash that some embittered people have cast on your column. I have never been more proud than to call Marilyn my friend. She was a woman of integrity and compassion. Give her that respect, or take the entire article off the site, please.
Gonenow, like you I am outraged by 2 of these posters. This is not the time or place for such statements. The Taylor family is a fine and outstanding family in Stoddard County and I truly wish the newspaper would remove such ugly comments. Where's your shame, I have lost all respect for anything these 2 choose to post anywhere and anytime.
RIP dear friend.
I agree this is a difficult time for the family, but I applaud backwardsX and BobbyWayne for the guts they have in using their 1st amendmant rights!! That accident that killed John and Karry was not the first nor the last party that did damage to kids and other families lives!!! Keep on posting and if you do not like what you see bearcat72, since you are a supposed christian, treat your brothers as yourself!! i will pray for you to have love in your heart and not hatred for the fellow man.
Eleven years ago I lost a very dear friend in that accident, and not a day goes by that I don't think about her or miss her. But not once did I ever blame Marilyn for her death. More than anything I was mad at my friend for getting in that car because she was smart enough to know better. For all that Marilyn has done or didn't get the chance to do, this moment is not the moment that defines her. She was loved and respected by many people, and now they are choosing to honor the person they loved. Shame on you for opening old wounds and pouring in the salt. Her family and friends were trying to do something nice.
I did send an email to the editor and the asst editor asking thme to close this comment column and get rid of the comments that are here already. I was proud to know Marilyn all through high school and I know what a kind spirit she was. My comments to bobby wayne and backward x were out of line also, although not intentionally hurtful, as their's were. That's not an apology to you 2 fruitcakes....only a statement that I was out of line also. Have you been smoking the peyote whitebredindidan?
So, I would ask Bobby Greer again..please take down all the above comments....and "lock" this section.
I will not apologize for my angry comments to bobbywayne and thebackwardx. Whitebredindian is out of line also. This has nothing to do with constitutional rights or politics in any way, shape or form. It has to do with common decency. Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do it. Lord, forgive them for they know not what they do. Amen.
To the Taylor and Williams families, my heart is truly broken over the loss of Marilyn. Like Bearcat72, I went through school and graduated with Marilyn in 1972 and I have many fond memories of the classes we shared and what a class act she was. May God be with you and give you peace.
"I did send an email to the editor and the asst editor asking thme to close this comment column and get rid of the comments that are here already"
I wouldn't have commented had I paid more attention to the article and realized that she was dead. I then volunteered to have my comment removed.
That said, grow up Bearcat72, you fascist. God help us if our news and discussion are censored because pushy know-it-alls take offense that Marilyn's constituents have their own opinions about their ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES. It's not like she was just a private citizen. She was a public figure. That means no privacy, no special considerations, no shielding from criticism.
Or maybe you'd prefer that we live in the USSR where people who have unpleasant criticisms to make a silenced either directly, or through the threat of violence (I'm looking at you, internet tough guys, and still waiting for you to post your real names and show me that I'm the coward instead of you).
backwardx...First you say..remove the comments, and then, in your very next breath, you continue to disparage Marilyn.
Censorship has nothing to do with an editor of a newspaper NOT allowing cruel remarks about people. A stupid "comment column" where you can come in and say whatever you want, about whoever you want, with no basis in FACT, is not the PRESS. It is merely a BLOG. Do you even know the difference between a BLOG and the real press? I doubt it.
I'm no fascist but I did serve in the Marine Corps for over 30 years so that TROLLS like yourself could carry on without being thrown in jail. If you served, thank you for your service. If you didn't, don't worry..I had your back. Coward? I think not.
Semper Fi,
Bearcat72..... aka Steve Lind
I'm assuming I'm the other 'tough guy'..gees, first of all it should be obvious that I'm not a guy, and anyone who has read my comments over the last couple of months that I've been posting on here, probably already knows my real name, but just in case...Barbara Cagle Mayhall.
I had the gr8 pleasure of working for Marilyn & Rick in the 80's & have never met 2 better people than them. They both showed their appreciation towards hard work & would Not hesitate to jump in & help when needed. Oh,those were the good ole days............& then there are always some that can not remember, if nothing good to say then shut the hello up! You are in definate need of prayers! All of Marilyn's family & loved ones are in my thoughts & prayers, especially you, Mary. Hope I get to be at the Liberty Hill GBC in Aid. I still have 2 messages from Marilyn on my machine & that's how I will remember her & that Smile & laugh ........we all miss you,the ones that knew you & loved you, always
They did not change my 1st avator ,will see if new one shows up. I have this eagle picture with the saying,"Our lives are touched by many people, but only a few leave that special feeling in our heart which lasts forever........One of those Special people are you, Marilyn....Always & Forever......................
Formal employee many years ago & Friend Forever........
