Jerry Joe Steward

Jerry Joe Steward, son of the late Jesse Steward and Estelle Newton Steward, was born on Aug. 22, 1943, at Kennett and died on Nov. 17, 2009, at the John J. Pershing Veterans Hospital in Poplar Bluff at the age of 66.

Mr. Steward was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dexter and a resident of Dexter. He was retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation where he was the District Safety officer. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a retired veteran of the United States Army National Guard where he served in Desert Storm.

He was a member of the Kennady- Hanks American Legion Post # 59 and the VFW Post #7183 in Lilbourn.

He was united in marriage to Saundra Adams on Dec. 19, 1964, at Lilbourn. Mrs. Steward survives of the home.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, John Steward of Wildwood; one brother, James Steward of Lilbourn; and two grandchildren, Colin Steward and Emma Steward.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, from 5-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter.

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with Rev. Don Adams officiating.
