Helen Jean Smock (nee Ward), died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, in Denton, Texas, after a long battle with cancer.
She was the beloved wife of the late Roy L. (Rocky) Smock; loving mother of Stephen L. (Sharon) Smock of Corinth, Texas, Gwen L. (John) Beasley of Luther, Okla.; cherished grandmother of Kevin Smock, Tammy (Tom) Rowe, Jared (Katrina) Beasley and Shannon (Jake) Birdwell; dear sister of the late James and William F. and her sisters, Ester, Bernice, Bess, Lee and Betty.
Jean was born in Painton on Sept. 13, 1926, to Ida and William F. Ward. After retiring from Lisbon Shops, Jean worked for Developmental Child Care and later volunteered her time continuing to care for the babies she so dearly loved. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Maplewood.
Jean will always be remembered for her love of her Irish heritage and unbridles joy of St. Patrick's Day, the love she held for her family, friends and neighbors and her pride and devotion to her grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at the Jay B. Smith Maplewood Chapel in St. Louis.
Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Jay B. Smith Maplewood Chapel, 7456 Manchester, in St. Louis.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Bloomfield Cemetery.
