Chamber finalizes Christmas on the Square

Friday, November 27, 2009
The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce met last week to finalize plans in regard to the upcoming Christmas on the Square event.

The festival, scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4, will begin with a 5:30 p.m. light parade. Entries will gather in the Justice Center parking lots and travel north from there to the Post Office.

Prizes will be awarded to the best entries in the amount of $75, $50 and $25.

Many of Bloomfield's downtown businesses will be opening and are planning to have door prize slips for the large number of door prizes scheduled to be given away at the end of the event.

Among the other events scheduled are:

* Free chili will be served at the Stars & Stripes Café from 6-7:30 p.m.

* The Bloomfield Chapter of the Red Hat Society will be serving hot-spiced apple cider and cookies at the Classic Cuts beauty shop.

* The Bloomfield Public Library will host Tea with Mrs. Claus and a book signing by local author Jim Boan beginning at 6 p.m.

* New this year will be photos with Santa Claus at McCord Photography on Prairie St. Cost will be $2 per picture.

* The McAtee Family Singers will be singing in front of the courthouse from 7-8 p.m. In case of bad weather, another location will be announced.

At 8 p.m., all tickets will be brought to the courthouse for the drawing of door prizes and donated by local businesses for the event. Winners will only be allowed to win one prize, but will be allowed to trade their prize in on the new one if their name is drawn a second time.

Also beginning the same night is the Christmas in the Park displays at the Bloomfield City Park.

In an effort to enhance the décor and spirit of Christmas Tricia Vandeven and Alderman Donna Deardorff have decorated light poles through downtown with various decorations. The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce applauds the work of all involved for working so hard to add the Christmas spirit to the community.

Anyone wishing to enter the parade should contact Penny Shepard at 421-1007.
