Crelle G. Lewis, age 93, of East Peoria, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at 9:05 a.m. in East Peoria, Ill.

Crelle was born April 23, 1916 in Chaffee. He married Ina Ruth Carlton on Feb. 14, 1952, in Peoria. Survivors include his wife, Ina Ruth; one son, Wallace (Jodith) Lewis of Canton; one grandson, William Lewis of Canton; one granddaughter, Nichole Lewis of Peoria; four step-grandchildren, Wendy Stevens of Creve Coeur, Clayton Stevens of Springfield, Joshua Marcure of Pekin, James Marcure of Springfield; six step-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Loraine Grimes of Sikeston.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jefferson Conover, Kenneth and Clifford Lewis; and one sister Mary Woodford.

He was a Marine serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Crelle was a machine operator for Caterpillar, Inc. for 30 years retiring in 1981. He was also a volunteer fireman for the East Peoria Fire Dept. for 23 years also until 1981.

He was a member of the Local 974, and the Morton American Legion.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria, Ill.

Graveside services with military honors will be Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
