Dexter Lady Bearcat team members and coaches get in some shooting practice on one of the side courts at the new Bearcat Event Center Wednesday afternoon. The new center will see its first official action tonight when the Lady 'Cats host Caruthersville at 6 o'clock. School officials announced there will only be two quarters a jayvee play, so the varsity game will be starting earlier than normal. The boys basketball team will play its first game in the new facility Friday night against Bernie. A ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the center is scheduled for 4 this afternoon.

I thought the floor was plastic. That sure does look like wood.

It's ok for Dexter, but it's not Sikeston. Why aren't we having the districts at Sikeston?

I am a former Sikeston grad and I really like the look of this gym. It has three painted full courts. When I was at Sikeston they did not have that, unless they have it now. The backboard has the new red led light at the buzzer very neat. Looks like there is some kind of big screen in there. Not sure what its for. Maybe keep player points. Great gym they are lucky to have it. Sorry sbulldog4life Sikeston can not have districts every single year.

sbulldog4life, were you around when the Sikeston Fieldhouse had the rubber floor and the lights that made everything look purple? I hated playing there. It's definitely a lot better now.

I graduated in 2000 and yes there are 3 full courts and 4 half courts with the main court the only one being painted so score one for the new Dexter court. Kind of like the diagram I made below with the periods being the goals. You only have to look up at the goals in the ceiling at the fieldhouse when the stands are out to see for yourself.

I actually didn't know they have led light shot clocks on the basketball backboards...neat. Also, Sikeston has 2 screens that shows all the game action but they aren't in HD or high resolution for that matter so they desperately need to be upgraded so another great thing for the Dexter gym. But if you ask me, the field house needs to be upgraded anyway. When you have to turn away fans because there is no more room in a 3,000 seat gym it is time to renovate. in 2012 it will have been 20 years since it was last renovated. I like the Dexter gym, it just looks too much like a warehouse with a gym in it to me whereas the fieldhouse looks more like a sports arena to me. As for Sikeston not hosting the districts, it's cool to me; Sikeston just has to travel a little to win it now. Then again maybe Dexter hosting will give them some sort of hope.

No one school hosts the districts every year. Therefore, Sikeston will not have it every year even though you think they should...How many times have they turned away people? Maybe 1% of the time. I don't think that warrants upgrading the facility...If the new Dexter gym looks like a warehouse, then that means there are a ton of colleges whose gyms look like warehouses as well.(i.e. SEMO, Murray, Arkansas St.)

I didn't know you could make ash wood shine like this? That is cool.

I hear it is awesome!
