Betty Summers, daughter of the late Roy Hyslop and Ethel Wright Hyslop was born on July 22, 1931 near Idalia and died at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Jan. 26, 2010 at the age of 78.

Mrs. Summers was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Dexter, had done babysitting in Dexter for many years, was a former clerk at Hamra's Department Store and at Knight's Department formerly in downtown Dexter and was a resident of Dexter.

She was united in marriage to Albert Carman Summers on April 26, 1947 at Dexter. Mr. Summers preceded her in death on April 16, 1987.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Jeanne Summers of Flagstaff, Ariz.; by one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Carl Wilson of Sikeston; by one brother, Charles Richard "Dick" Hyslop of Birch Tree; by two sisters, Florence Bright of Cape Girardeau and Bonnie Brown of St. Louis; by two sisters-in- law, Wilma Hyslop of Dexter and Mildred Hyslop of Bloomfield; by two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert Hyslop, Jim Hyslop, Arthur Hyslop, Paul Hyslop and Billy Hyslop; by five sisters, Edna Harper, Wanda Parks, Vivian Nichols, Mary Curd and Ruth Hyslop.

Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010. Funeral services will then be conducted at 11 a.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Pennington officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter.
