Elsie Abigail Patterson, daughter of the late Charles and Maudie Moss Cowell, was born in Pope County Arkansas, on Jan. 30, 1914, and died at the Missouri Southern Health Care in Dexter on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at the age of 96.
She had lived in Arkansas before moving to Missouri in 1937. She lived in New Madrid, Bell City, Vanduser, and Dexter. She was a member of the First Church of God in Dexter, was a homemaker and a excellent quilter.
On Nov. 18, 1933, she was married to Clarence Elmar Patterson in Lamar, Ark. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1994.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Mearle Patterson of Independence, Hollis and Jeanete Patterson of Jackson, Larry and Janice Patterson of Dexter; five grandchildren, Vicki Moss of Osceola, Dawn Ritchie of Rexburg, Idaho, Larry Patterson, Jr. and Grayson Patterson of Jackson, Anthony Patterson of Lee's Summit, and Creighton Patterson of Franklin, Tenn.; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Geneva Keith of Vanduser and Winona Griffin of Bloomfield. Other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by four brothers Troy, Louis, Lloyd, and Charlie Cowell; and two sisters Beulah Cook, and Hazel Hardman.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, after 10:30 a.m. at Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Services were conducted Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Leonard Madigan of Dexter officiating.
Interment followed in the Dudley Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
